Basic Dressmaking
This course guides those with only limited knowledge of garment making, to acquire a variety of skills necessary to utilise new and traditional materials and create exciting designs. This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in gaining confidence and developing skills in basic sewing and dressmaking.
Apart from the t-shirt pattern supplied, students will be required to purchase their own patterns. Students will need access to a modern sewing machine which has the ability to do at least zig zag stitch and has various attachments such as interchangeable feet.
Students in this course will study a range of topics that include:
- care of equipment
- woven and knit fabrics
- using and adjusting patterns
- practical tasks include shirt skirt and jacket with emphasis on zips, bands, hems, collars, sleeves and buttonholes.
