Equal Employment Opportunity
The Human Rights laws recognise and promote everyone's right to a fair go by making discrimination and harassment—based on a number of personal characteristics—unlawful.
This course is designed to encourage behaviours and workplace practices that support a culture that is fair, equitable, and free from discrimination. You will become familiar with the behaviours that constitute discrimination and harassment in the workplace, and most importantly, what you should do if you or a colleague should be exposed to any discriminatory behaviour.
This course is essential for all employees to understand the legislative requirements according to the Equal Employment Opportunity laws. As it is not tailored to your particular circumstances, it should not be treated as legal advice.
At the completion of this course you will be able to:
- define the concepts of discrimination and harassment
- identify what types of behaviour could be considered to be discriminatory or amount to harassment
- relate workplace scenarios to the concept of discrimination
- undertake five steps to address discriminatory behaviour
- undertake appropriate steps, as an employer, if a discrimination/harassment claim is brought against one of your employees
- identify under what circumstances you have the right to make a workplace discrimination complaint.
