Project Management—Essentials
In this course, you will discover the features which identify a project, and be introduced to the various concepts and techniques you will need to use to effectively and successfully manage projects.
Unlike Process Management, Project Management is discrete, in that the project has a limited lifetime. Although many of the techniques you will need to apply are familiar, you will require other techniques which are, necessarily, quite different.
There are risks and uncertainties within the realm of project management which you may not have had to face before. This course will give you the insights necessary to address those uncertainties and minimise them.
Once you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- describe the important features of project management
- understand the key factors in defining a project
- describe and carry out the role of a project manager at different stages of a project
- identify external and internal forces which work for and against a project
- understand the organisational context of resource planning, and how internal and external factors influence the use of resources
- take account of financial constraints and legal issues which affect project management decisions
- select and manage an effective team
- organise team roles and responsibilities
- plan, prioritise, specify and obtain resources to plan a project
- plan the effective use of resources
- monitor and control the key aspects of a project
