Funded Programmes

Learning Network Queensland (LNQ) received a grant to deliver a project under the Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiativeThe project was to deliver to 220 participants across the Central Queensland region two Hospitality skill set programs. The 3 Up Programme gave participants Barista, Bar and Gaming skills and the Clean Up Programme gave participants, cleaning and housekeeping skills.

These programmes were designed to give participants both practical and theoretical training that would lead to job outcomes at the end of training. Training was delivered with Industry partners.

In 2011 programmes were delivered in Gladstone, Rockhampton, Agnes Waters, Gympie, Hervey Bay and the Capricorn Coast.

Many successful stories have come from these programmes. The following is just one:

Dear Pauline,
My story goes like this. As a mum of eight kids, I was keen to get back into the workforce as my husband wasn’t working. I had an AIN qualification but wanted to expand my skills. I had been told about housekeeping in the mine camps and had been pursuing leads. My job network agreed to fund me doing the ‘Clean Up’ program after I saw the ad in the local paper. After completing the course that qualification was recorded on my resume and a month later Mackay Labour Hire called my job network asking for housekeepers. Four days later, I arrived at Coppabella west of Mackay and started the next day doing a 12 hr day. My first weekly pay was over $900 after tax and I am doing two weeks on, one week off. I have just been offered permanent work with the company running this village, so I have achieved what I set out to do with thanks to your ‘Clean Up’ program. Thank you all so much, regards Melinda Lillico.
